Art exhibition for a good cause

Randfontein SA Bachelor 2017 finalist holds art exhibition for the Childhood Cancer Foundation South Africa.

Johan van der Merwe, SA Bachelor 2017 finalist held a ‘seven pieces for peace’ art exhibition for a good cause on Friday, 7 July.

Seven artists attended the special event, with some coming from as far away as the Western Cape. The event was an SA Bachelor initiative.

The evening was all about the Childhood Cancer Foundation (Choc) and creating awareness for the organisation.

The Choc foundation assists families and children that are diagnosed with cancer. The organisation also provides housing for the families and children during the period of their treatment, and makes sure that the children continue with their treatment until they are cured.

Johan told the Herald that some children seem to have flu, with symptoms like those of flu, but that in some cases it’s a sign of cancer in children.

De Witt Coetzee, Annika Vorster, Chané van Deventer and Annatjie de Witt at the event.

Members of the public were in awe of the art pieces being displayed and told the Herald that art should get more exposure in Randfontein. At least 20 per cent of the prices of the art being sold went to the Choc foundation, making the night a big success.

Some of the other artists present included music by Anemarie and Emanuel Pietersen and SA Talent Search finalist Jaco Prinsloo. The art pieces that were not sold during the evening will be available at Vredenvlucht, 5 Louis Road, Loumarina.

The seven artists who had their art pieces available on display were:

• Gretha Helberg

• Hanlie Kotze

• Dougie du Toit

• Karina Pienaar

• Mariaan Kotze

• Ric Holt

• Stan Polsen

“Being an artist is a talent that God gave me,” Gretha said.
