Russel Meiring, an ER24 spokesperson, has confirmed that the woman who set herself on fire in public in Randgate yesterday afternoon, as reported by the Herald, was left critically injured.

In an official statement, he said, “A woman was left critically injured after she allegedly set herself alight outside a shop on Union Street in Randfontein. ER24 paramedics were dispatched to the scene shortly after 4.10pm.
“Upon arrival, paramedics found a woman seated outside the shop surrounded by several members of the public.
“They assessed the woman and found that she had sustained burn wounds to her head and face and was in a critical condition. The woman was treated for her injuries and provided with pain-relief medication before she was transported to Leratong Provincial Hospital for further care.
“It is alleged that the woman had poured petrol over herself and set herself alight.”
Local authorities were on the scene to investigate further.
