Snap Back Studios steps up again

Snap Back Studios now have their sights on the Hip-hop Dance South Africa Regional Round in late July.

Snap Back Studios’ dance exams recently took place, with the dancers executing their Association of International Dance Teachers (AIDT) syllabus with precision.

Eileen Levey, one of the two owners of Snap Back Studios, said, “This was an exciting time of the year for all our pupils.”

According to her, many hours of practising and perfecting were put into the exams. An examiner was sent by the AIDT to the studio, where the pupils were marked according to the relevant level and their execution of the syllabus.

“We are excited to say that our studio received top marks and we are extremely proud of all our pupils. Congratulations!” she added.

A number of the hip-hop pupils were selected on the basis of their exam results to take part in the AIDT Hip-hop Bursary Challenge and Top Exam Achievers Award 2017, two different competitions that were held at the same event in mid-June at the Roodepoort Civic Theatre.

Studios from all over Johannesburg take part in this event and the dancers competed for the best status. Entrants for the Top Exam Achievers Award 2017 had to dance one of the exercises they had learned for their exams to free music, against pupils from other studios, whereas competitors in the Bursary Challenge 2017 had to attend a workshop where dance styles and steps were learnt. They were given some time to practise and then called back to demonstrate the freestyle steps they had learned during the workshop.

Daniëlle Coetzee achieved third place in the intermediate category in the Top Exam Achievers Award.

The Bursary Challenge is divided into different age groups. Tenika Rush won the Mini Challenger category (11 years and under), while Larisha van Wyk walked off with the title of Most Promising Dancer in the Senior Challenger category (16 years and over).

“We are so proud of our pupils and their achievements. All the hard work has paid off! Snap Back Studios is now working hard to take part in the Hip-hop Dance South Africa Regional Round on 22 July,” said Eileen.

The studio will also be taking part in the Roodepoort Dance Festival and Dance Star competition to be held later this year. Snap Back Studio’s teachers would like to wish all their pupils good luck for their preparation for the upcoming competitions.

“Challenge yourself to be a better version of yourself. Work hard, stay focused and do your best. We are all proud of you,” Eileen said.
