Man airlifted after head-on crash

Man airlifted to hospital, two others injured after two vehicles collided head-on yesterday.

One person had to be airlifted to hospital following a head-on crash on the R28 near the intersection with the R559 in Randfontein during the afternoon of Monday, 26 June.

Two other people sustained minor injuries in the crash.

Werner Vermaak, ER24’s spokesperson said, “At approximately 4.30pm, paramedics from ER24 as well as other services arrived on scene and found the two vehicles. Two occupants were found with minor to moderate injuries while the front-seat passenger in one of the vehicles had sustained serious injuries.

“The Randfontein Fire Department had to use mechanical tools to free the man from the vehicle. Once freed, paramedics were able to fully assess and treat him for his injuries.

The ER24 One Plan medical helicopter was called to the scene to airlift him to hospital.”

The exact circumstances surrounding the collision are not yet known.
