Man critical after shop robbery

Shop owner shot and in critical condition following robbery in Westonaria during the weekend.

A man is in critical condition after he was shot during an apparent robbery at a shop in Westonaria during the weekend.

Russel Meiring, ER24 spokesperson, said the incident took place in the Speruperu informal settlement on Saturday, 24 June.

He said paramedics arrived at about 3.30am. Local authorities also were on scene.

Upon closer inspection, paramedics found the man at a residence opposite his shop.”

According to Meiring, the man was assessed and found to be in a critical condition, having sustained several gunshot wounds.

Treatment and advanced life support interventions were immediately initiated, in an effort to stabilise his vital signs. Once the man was stable, he was transported under advanced life support supervision to Carletonville Provincial Hospital for further care.

The details surrounding this incident are not yet known but local authorities were on scene for further investigations.

The Herald is awaiting comment from the Westonaria police.
