#KnysnaFireDisaster: Donations streaming in
Donations are streaming in at the Herald office for the people affected by the #KnysnaFireDisaster. Here's the latest update
On Friday, 9 June, the Herald was overwhelmed with residents donating clothes, food and much more for the victims of the devastating Knysna fire disaster.
Early on Friday morning, the Herald posted an article asking residents to drop off goods or donations and almost immediately bags and bags of items were being dropped off by the public.
Another resident said she is bringing a whole bakkie-full of goods on Monday. She said she has so much, that she will make several trips to the Herald’s office.
The Herald wants to thank the community for their generous contributions in this tragic time. It is much appreciated. Contributions from communities all over, destined for the Knysna fire disaster victims, continue to pour in, and residents in Randfontein are welcome to continue helping their fellow South Africans.
The main needs of the victims at this stage are warm clothes, food, blankets, animal food and toiletries. As the Herald journalist was writing this article, another resident walked in with a lot of dog food and gave a donation towards cat food.
Clinton Botha, the editor of the Herald said, “Never have I seen a community react so quickly in helping out our fellow South Africans in need. Let’s keep it going. Thank you Randfontein.”
