Free dog or cat sterilisation for one day

Here's why it's necessary to sterilise your pets

As a pet owner, you have the right to decide whether or not to have your dog or cat sterilised; however, most experts will agree that all dogs and cats should be neutered or spayed.

The State vets from Randfontein are coming to the SPCA in Carletonville on Wednesday 14 June 2017 to sterilise your dog or cat at no cost. They will sterilise only ten male dogs or cats and ten female dogs or cats.

Sterilisation is usually performed when the pet is about six months old and involves removing both ovaries and the uterus in females, and both testicles in males.

Why is it necessary to sterilise your dog?

• Reproduction becomes impossible

• Prevent pet overpopulation

• Spaying or neutering can also combat the occurrence of life-threatening diseases such as cancer and genital disease

• Dogs that are spayed or neutered at an early stage of life are far less likely to develop behavioural issues

• It is believed that dogs or cats that are not sterilised require extra supervision to prevent escape attempts

• Female cats and dogs will have vaginal bleeding during their oestrus period and may need to wear a protective garment if they are not sterilised

Each year millions of cats and dogs are euthanised, simply because no homes are available for them.

Please contact the SPCA on 018 788 6262 to confirm your appointment as they only have facilities for 20 animals.
