Use electricity sparingly warns Eskom

Go easy on using electricity, warns Eskom as demand increases.

Eskom wishes to alert all electricity users in Gauteng to use electricity sparingly and safely during cold and rainy weather conditions.

According to a statement issued by the Eskom Gauteng Operating Unit, “Electricity users are urged to use alternative means to keep warm, such as wearing warm clothes and blankets, while switching off non-essential and heavy appliances such as stoves, geysers, heater, etc to mitigate strain on the network.

“Furthermore, we encourage our communities to refrain from connecting illegally as this not only exposes them to safety risks but also puts a further burden on the network and undermines Eskom’s effort to provide quality electricity services to everyone’s benefit. Customers are advised to report any interruption of supply and exercise patience as our technicians are likely to experience challenges accessing the network in some areas to attend to the reported outages due to the weather conditions.

“We urge members of the public to take action and report any illegal connections or power outages to the Eskom Contact Centre 08600 37566 (24hrs) or text (SMS) your query and account number/ meter number to 35328 (Elect). “
