UPDATE: One arrested for brutal ‘farm attack’

BREAKING NEWS: One suspect arrested in apparent farm attack earlier this week.

One suspect has been arrested in connection with the brutal shooting of a 71-year-old man in an apparent farm attack in the Wolwekrans area on the West Rand earlier this week.

Constable Lucky Matome, Tarlton Police spokesperson confirmed on Saturday (6 May) that the arrest took place at about 6pm the previous day. The suspect arrested is 57-years of age.

The West Rand Trio Task Team as well as the Tarlton police are still searching for the second suspect.

At about 7.50pm on the evening of 4 May, a 71-year-old man was shot several times. Just after the incident, reports of the attack went viral on several Whatsapp groups in Randfontein. The Herald followed the story and Captain Appel Ernst confirmed that it had happened in the Tarlton area.

Constable Lucky Matome, Tarlton Police’s spokesperson, said the West Rand Trio Task Team and the Tarlton police are urgently requesting the community to come forth with information that might assist in the investigation of an attempted murder.

On Friday, 5 May, a reliable source told the Herald that the victim is in a stable condition.
