Think you're safe behind a gate? Think again. A Greenhills woman, 51, was robbed at gunpoint in her home recently.

Captain Appel Ernst, Randfontein Police’s spokesperson, confirmed the house robbery took place at about 11.56am on Wednesday, 19 April.

She said the woman was allegedly busy cleaning when the three house robbers entered her home through the front door. One of the three suspects pointed a firearm at her when she screamed out in alarm. The suspects then took only a television set and fled the premises.

A friend next door allegedly heard the woman scream and subsequently investigated. The friend immediately looked over the wall between the two properties and saw the robbers make a getaway in a silver BMW without a registration number.

“An investigation by the police revealed that the suspects gained access to the yard by lifting the front gate from its rail,” Ernst explained.

The woman was later taken to hospital to treat a wound she sustained by cutting herself by accident during the robbery.

After the robbery, posts did the rounds on Facebook in which a blue Picanto was mistakenly identified as the suspects’ getaway car. Later, it was discovered the blue Picanto actually belonged to a concerned citizen who chased after the BMW.
