#FridayBraaiDay: ‘Real men only braai with wood’

The 'Teiners have spoken – they prefer to braai with wood.

One may think a braai is a braai is a braai, but for people in the ‘Tein, it’s an art and every art form has its tools.

In this week’s #FridayBraaiDay the Herald set out to address the wood/ briquette/ charcoal issue.

However, we didn’t really need to address anything, as it is quite clear that Randfonteiners are set on making a braai with firewood. Braai master William Knight said real men only use wood for a braai.

The Herald ran a Facebook poll and asked people to vote between charcoal, briquettes and wood.

Twenty respondents voted for wood, while nine voted for briquettes and only two voted for charcoal.

Although the Herald asked how they make their fires, ‘Teiner’s seemed to be dead set on not sharing their braai secrets.

In an interesting turn of events, Johan Brits, this week’s braai master, offered to donate a Himalayan Braai to the Herald for an upcoming braai master challenge.

Keen on winning it? Look out for the Herald’s weekly #FridayBraaiDay feature for the what, where and the when of the challenge.
