One dead, eight injured in three-vehicle crash

A woman in her 30s was killed and eight other people injured in a three- vehicle crash in Westonaria yesterday.

A woman in her 30s lost her life and eight people were injured in a three-vehicle crash on the R28 in Glenharvie in Westonaria on Tuesday morning (18 April).

ER24 emergency paramedics found one light motor vehicle in the middle of the road while another was on the side of the road. The third vehicle was standing some distance away.

Paramedics discovered the lifeless body of a woman trapped inside one of the vehicles. “Unfortunately, the woman had already succumbed to her multiple fatal injuries. Nothing could be done for her and she was declared dead on the scene.” said Russel Meiring, ER24 spokesperson.

Three other occupants of the same vehicle were lying outside. An elderly woman sustained moderate injuries while a seven-year-old boy and 15-year-old girl both sustained numerous injuries and were in a critical condition.

Paramedics immediately treated the patients and provided the children with advanced life support interventions. Once treated, the boy was airlifted by a private medical helicopter to Baragwanath Hospital. The elderly woman and girl were transported by ambulance.

Meiring also said that five occupants of the other two vehicles were found walking around on the scene. ER24 paramedics assessed them and found that they sustained only moderate injuries.

The victims were treated and thereafter transported to nearby hospitals.

The details surrounding this incident are not yet known but local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.
