RHS wins top award

Randfontein High School (RHS) announced winners of the Innovation Award.

Randfontein High School’s (RHS) top management was invited to attend the Gauteng Premier’s Service Excellence Awards at Gallagher Estate in February.

They are Marita Henning (RHS principal), Amy Appelcryn and Jason Fisher (deputy principals).

The Gauteng Premier’s Service Excellence Awards is an opportunity for David Makhura, Premier of Gauteng, to recognise contributions made by civil servants, businesses, non-governmental organisations and civil society towards improving the lives of people in Gauteng by creating jobs, empowerment, encouraging social cohesion, improving health care and creating sustainable development in the province.

The scope of the awards includes contributions in areas such as social transformation, economic growth, clean governance, innovation and sustainable development.

RHS Deputy Principal, Jason Fisher, who never misses an opportunity to broaden RHS’ horizons, nominated his school in the category Innovation.

With less than 24 hours’ notice, RHS was informed that they would be visited by a panel of adjudicators selected by the Premier himself and the Director General, Phindile Baleni.

This 22-strong team with representatives from government and civil society arrived at RHS in ‘blue-light brigade’ style to observe and conduct an intense verification audit of all facts provided in the application. In true #RHSian spirit the staff and learners blew them away.

Shortly after their visit, RHS was announced the winners of the Innovation Award. Always moving forward looking for new mountains to scale, they certainly lived up to their vision of being Trendsetters in Motion.
