Randfontein High School (RHS) has won a National Teaching Award (NTA) – for the third time.
Previous wins were individual entries by Rametsi Senoamadi in 2013 for Excellence in ICT Enhanced Teaching and Jason Fisher in 2015 for Excellence in Secondary School Teaching. This year’s win is extra special because it was a team entry by the entire academic staff.
The category RHS entered was Technology Enhanced Teaching and Learning, and, being the first school in Gauteng to pilot digital examinations for the Gauteng Department of Education, “How could we be anything but winners,” said Alexandra West, the Head of Department: Computer Applications Technology, Consumer Studies and Commerce, and Grade 10 Manager.
The Principal, Marita Henning and Deputy Principal, Jason Fisher represented the staff at the prestigious prize-giving held recently at the Tshwane Events Centre.
The National Teaching Awards were conceptualised and launched in 2000 and are now in their sixteenth year. The objectives of the NTA are to recognise and promote excellence in teaching performance, honour dedicated, creative and effective teachers and schools, and encourage best practices in schools.
