Cop smells dagga while driving, one arrested

One arrested after police notice smell of dagga coming from property.

A man was arrested on a charge of being in possession of drugs after a Randfontein police officer on routine patrol caught the smell of dagga coming from a property.

The incident took place at about 4.30pm on Thursday, 2 March, while members attached to the Visible Policing Unit (VISPOL) in Randfontein were conducting routine patrols in Mohlakeng.

“The complainant, Constable Mhlongo, alleged that he smelled dagga while driving past the propertye. He stopped and investigated,” Captain Appel Ernst, Randfontein Police spokesperson confirmed.

He found two men in a room in the Madala Hostel and requested their permission to search them. He discovered a parcel containing dagga on one of the men. The man was immediately arrested for possession of dagga and charged.

He will appear in the Randfontein Magistrates’ Court soon.

Constable Mhlongo was applauded for the arrest.

“This is an instance in which our members excelled, since they noticed the smell and upon investigation they found the dagga. Constable Mhlongo’s commitment is applauded,” said Brigadier Manamela.
