Russel Meiring, Er24 spokesperson said, “Local authorities had to close off the road while emergency services inspected the scene. A 29-year-old woman was found lying trapped in the front of the taxi. Paramedics assessed the woman and found that she was in a critical condition.

“Rescue services began to use the jaws-of-life equipment to free the woman from the vehicle. Once freed, paramedics treated the woman and provided her with several advanced life support interventions. Once stable, the critically injured woman was airlifted by a private medical helicopter to a nearby hospital for urgent treatment.”

Meiring added eight other patients were found on the scene with injuries ranging from minor to moderate.

Paramedics treated the patients and thereafter transported them to various hospitals in the area for further treatment.
