Get to know a ‘Teiner #7 – Zodwa Mahlangu

The seventh person in the Herald's Get to know a Randfonteiner 2017 project introduces herself.

Meet this week’s Randfonteiner, the seventh in the Herald’s ‘Get to know a ‘Teiner’ series – Ntombizodwa ‘Zodwa’ Agnes Mahlangu.

When asked what her nickname is she said “Zodwa”, because her name is so long.

She has four children – three of her own and one adopted, who was orphaned after his mother (Zodwa’s sister) passed away.

She works at the West Rand District Municipality (WRDM) as a cleaner and is involved in many community projects including those that help the sick, take in orphans and get people their necessary personal documents such as IDs.

Her hobbies include watching soccer. “I like to go to the stadium to support my team, Orlando Pirates,” she said.

Watch our interview with her here:

She said when she was still at school, she used to play softball. She still has a passion for the sport but unfortunately does not play any longer.

Zodwa lives in Mohlakeng, in a section called Zulu Jump. She mentioned that Mohlakeng is her favourite thing about Randfontein — she was born there, in 1965; married there and would be happy to live out the rest of her days there.
