Simon Molefe, 32, was sentenced to 17 years imprisonment after a business robbery in Westonaria last year.
Molefe was found guilty of one count each of being in possession of stolen property, being in possession of an unlicensed firearm and being in possession of ammunition.
Although he received a 17-year sentence, it was reduced to an effective 10 years in jail on Thursday, 2 March, in the Westonaria Regional Court. Molefe was also declared unfit to possess a firearm.
“The business robbery took place at about 5.30am on 17 July, 2016”, said Sergeant Linkie Lefakane, Bekkersdal Police’s spokesperson.
Sergeant Lucky Baloyi and Constable Ndivhuho Mudeli responded to the business robbery complaint, arrested Molefe, recovered the stolen property and seized the firearm used.
Detective Sergeant Sevah Shiviti successfully opposed bail and worked tirelessly on the case until Molefe was found guilty.
