#MunicipalMonday: Who to call to claim after hitting a pothole

What's being repaired, and what's not.

The Herald has received various complaints of potholes around Randfontein and made it this week’s #MunicipalMonday focus.

Recent heavy rains have led to roads breaking up and previously filled potholes returning to their natural state.

Three potholes developed on Kenneth Road, outside the Herald’s offices after a water leak ran into the road for days.

Three large potholes have developed right in front of the Herald’s offices. According to DA Ward 6 councillor, Ellik de Lange, these are the result of a water leak that has been running for quite some time.

The water runs from a sidewalk into the street and coupled with cars using the busy road, it has created three deep potholes, one of which was as deep as half a standard orange traffic beacon. The beacon was put in the road to warn motorists against driving into the hole, which is filled with water.

While the leak has been repaired, the holes have not been filled and De Lange has taken it upon himself to fill the hole with sand as a temporary measure until it is fixed.

It has not all been bad news for potholes in Randfontein, as Ward 7, of which Craig Harrison is the councillor, has seen a few repaired potholes.

Of course the announcement about the repairing of the potholes on Facebook was not without its funny moments:

Harrison also gave members of the public a number to call when needing to claim after losing a tyre or sustaining car damages after driving through a pothole.
