#FridayBraaiDay: What do you give a vegetarian at a braai?

Actually, Randfontein, you look like you have this covered.

This #FridayBraaiDay we’re looking at what to feed a vegetarian or vegan at a braai.

Now, vegetarians are one thing but vegans are a whole different kind of monster at a braai especially at a Braai in Randfontein.

Vegans and sometimes vegetarians are all about meat free, organic, fair trade, ethical, gluten free, low GI foods.

Now there’s not just one kind of vegetarian or vegan. You get ovo-vegetarians (they eat eggs but don’t drink milk), lacto-vegetarians (they drink milk but don’t eat eggs), and ovo-lacto-vegetarians (they have both eggs and milk).

With vegans there are ethical, plant, raw, and hipster (wink) vegans.

So what does Randfontein, the land of boerewors, braai and biltong say they will give a vegetarian should one show up for a braai?

We didn’t ask ‘Teiners about vegans — that just would have been unfair. It’s like a difficult Angry Birds level.

What the ‘Tein had to say:

Other Randfonteiners looked like they would be able to have the entire town’s vegetarians over, you know, all seven of them.

What these top chefs had to say:

Well, Randfontein, you look like you have this covered.
