Twenty sheep stolen from farm

A baaaaad day for one farmer near Westonaria as thieves take 20 sheep.

A Zuurbekom woman was recently the victim of stock theft and police are on the look-out for the thieves.

A total of 20 sheep were stolen off the woman’s farm, located near Westonaria.

The woman allegedly received a call from her shepherd on Wednesday, 1 March at approximately 11.30pm informing her that a group of men had stormed into the yard and taken 20 of her sheep.

She allegedly rushed home to investigate and discovered upon her arrival, as her shepherd had said, that 20 sheep were nowhere to be found.

“The suspects are still at large,” said Sergeant Linkie Lefakane, the Bekkersdal Police spokesperson.

Lefakane added that residents and workers in the area should come forward if they have any information that might lead to the recovery of the sheep, and the arrest of the suspects.

Simon Mathysen, a Waterpan farmer had cattle valued at approximately R1 million stolen from him in January. His cattle were stolen in an area close to Zuurbekom.
