How to make every drop of fuel count

Find out what reduces your fuel economy.

The price of fuel has recently dropped, but not by much, and the annual fuel levy will soon be kicking in. Before the levy hits, start saving on your fuel bill.

Ways you can save after every fill-up:

Treat your car well

According to Caltex, you can save fuel by keeping your car in tip-top shape so it works the way it should.

Reduced fuel economy

They also explain how air-conditioning and under-inflated tyres reduce fuel economy.

Avoid accelerating and braking quickly

The fuel giant add that accelerating quickly lowers fuel mileage and suggest motorists use the accelerator and brakes moderately.

Take it slow

Taking it slow on the roads, they say, can increase fuel economy by up to 20 per cent.

Ditch the baggage

Travelling light and reducing revving are other ways they say fuel can be saved.

Extra tips

According to Business Tech, keep windows closed and do not buy an expensive car as a new vehicle is not an investment – your ‘asset’ begins depreciating in value the moment it is driven off the showroom floor.
