RHS’s Matric Commitment Ceremony

“If you don’t do something today then your tomorrow will look exactly like your yesterday” – Pastor Edgar Billy.

Randfontein High School (RHS) held its annual Matric Commitment Ceremony on Sunday, 26 February in the school hall.

The sounds of praise, worship and prayer, along with the powerful and inspirational sermons delivered by Pastors Reuben Daniels, Edgar Billy and Dr Joe Mabuela, marked the all-important commitment service for the Class of 2017.

Alexandra West, Head of Department: CAT, Consumer Studies, Commerce, and Grade 10 Manager, said, ” These gentlemen illustrated the importance of learning from yesterday, living for today and preparing for a better tomorrow. ”

Pastor Daniels said, “Your past is just like a rear-view mirror. If you constantly look into it, you will wreck your future. Rather glance into it to remember where you come from”. Pastor Edgar Billy, tasked with talking about the future said, “If you don’t do something today then your tomorrow will look exactly like your yesterday”.

Learners, parents and teachers alike were led into taking their pledges to strive for the goal of 100% and giving nothing but their best for the tenth consecutive year. “2017 will be a historical year for Randfontein High School and the Class of 2017 will form part of that history,” said Dr Mabuela.

RCL Chairman, Lurhan Maraba read and accepted the pledge on behalf of the Class of 2017, while Dr Mabuela, SGB Chairperson did the same on behalf of the parents. The Deputy Principal, Jason Fisher, read and signed the

pledge on behalf of all the Grade 12 teachers. Lorraine Mofokeng, the Institutional Development and Support Officer for Randfontein High School and a representative of the Gauteng Department of Education, was on hand to witness the pledges taken by all.

The members of the Class of 2017 were each handed a pebble inscribed with their names to symbolise the importance of laying a good foundation and to help them remember where they come from. The pebbles hold special blessings imparted to them by each of the staff members, and relate to the following Scripture: “He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the hidden manna and will give him a white stone, and in the stone a new name written, which no man knoweth, saving he that receiveth it.” (Revelations 2:17).

The evening ended with all present singing the school song and National Anthem.
