It’s almost Show time!

Just one week to go till the 2017 Randfontein Show – Here's what you can expect over the four days.

Between 2 and 5 March thousands of people from all over Gauteng are expected to visit the West Rand’s ‘biggest business and social extravaganza’ at the Greenhills Sport Stadium, home of the Randfontein Show.

We are excited about all the new events and exhibitors at this year’s Show. Every year we bring in something different and visitors can look forward to a completely new look in the Show Hall, exciting new rides, spectacular motocross stunts, drum majorettes, a labyrinth, Arts and Culture Stage, Snoopy’s Flying Club and dog shows,” said Marcelle Mans, Show Coordinator.

Regarding live entertainment, Marcelle said, “We also have some of the country’s favourite music artists such as Saarkie, 4Werke, Refenste, Adam Tas, Brendan Peyper, Ricus Nel, Touch of Class, Jay and Lianie, Gavin Edwards (The Voice) and Riana Nel performing in the Show marquee.”

Main events on the Mahindra Stage in the Kuierskuur include a country show featuring Two Cowboys and a Lady with Clive Bruce, Billy Forrest and Daleen. Gert Koevert & Orkes is another highlight, as well as Riaan Grobler, Dillon Lerm, Linda Kilian, Tanya V, Irene Louise van Wyk and the Rohan Boereorkes.

The Coca-Cola Arts and Culture Stage next to the Show Hall offers up-and-coming artists the opportunity to entertain the crowds with genres that include hip-hop and Afropop. Artists include Agents of Chaos, Prince, Undoda, Destiny, TshepoG, Khethona, Jalettua Nuune, Spazaman, Orion West Rand and Elsirven Sativa.

Various bands such as Dagdroom, Hennie de Bruyn en die Kitaarkêrels and Frekwensie as well as the City Harvest Cultural Group, Dinaledi Youth Projects and the Mediyakoma Traditional Dancers will also be performing on the Arts and Culture Stage. There will also be a number of fashion shows on this stage.

• Plenty for the kids

According to Marcelle, “Lollos, Clarice and the RainbowKidz, Omo the Clown and a dedicated KidZone (C Field), will provide all kinds of activities to keep the kids busy. There will be face painting, cupcake decorating, a craft workshop, carnival games, balloon sculpting and a human canvas and a puppet show in the Kuierskuur.”

Ocean Basket will be hosting a Colouring-In Competition for ages 4 to 6, and 7 to 9 at their stall and great prizes are up for grabs. They are also hosting the finals of their sushi competition for primary and high school learners at their stall on the A field on Saturday, 4 March.

• Let’s not forget the senior citizens

Senior citizens can look forward to a special event on Thursday, 2 March at 12 noon. Well-known television actor, Lieb Bester, Innibos Festival Director and musician Andy Lubbe and Stage Manager, Paul Jordaan, who make up Die Vasbyters, will sing, play instruments and entertain in the Show marquee.

• Something for everyone

The Wow Mini Circus will entertain all ages as will the stilt walkers, acrobats, buskers and clowns.

“Dog lovers are welcome to bring their dogs to the Show – as long as they are on a leash. Man and his best friend can also watch a K9 Search and Rescue Dog Demo (Saturday) as well the Boerboel Appraisal and Competition that takes place in the Coca-Cola arena on the C Field on Sunday 5 March.”

The muscle men will be at it again, but this time the Chaos Strongmen and WWP Wrestlers will be pitting their strength against a Wild Thing Ford Ranger in the Ultimate Power Challenge. The teams will also provide additional entertainment after their battle with the bakkie.

The Bicycle Boulevard – situated in front of the Show office – will also see some interesting items that include:

• School principal’s race – who can ride a bicycle at the slowest speed?

• Boerboel parade

• Traditional dancers

• Fred Astaire SA dance medley

• Drum majorettes parade

• Harley Davidson parade

We are proud to present the 10th Cheerleading and Pom Pom Competition this year. It remains one of the most popular and well supported events at the Show.

“It’s wonderful to see the support the teams get from their schools, teachers and parents. This year we introduce a junior division for primary schools and we even have a pre-primary team from Twinkle Stars Day Care that will be giving a pre-competition performance.”

Dog lovers will enjoy the Boerboel Appraisal and Competition in the Coca-Cola arena on the C Field on Sunday 5 March.

She added, “We are enormously grateful to all our sponsors for their support. Without their input we would never be able to host an event of this magnitude. We would also like to thank the following …”
