A pastor with a powerful message for R’fontein

Former learner in Randfontein, now a radio presenter and pastor urges the town not to loose hope.

For the past ten years, Randfontein’s own ‘golden voice’ presenter on Rainbow FM has been uplifting many spirits.

He describes his talent as a calling from God – to win the souls for the kingdom of God. He is Pastor Neville Moteane and the voice behind the microphone on the show Inspirational Thursdays which is broadcast from 7pm to 9pm on 90.7FM. He still has fond memories of doing a live broadcast at last year’s Prayer Rally at Toekomsrus Stadium, where he happened to see many fans and friends some of whom were seeing him for the first time in real life.

“2016 was a milestone for me when Rainbow FM broadcast the Prayer Rally in Toekomsrus as I started in 2006,”he said.

Neville is a former learner of Mohlakeng Malerato Primary School, Phahama Secondary School and Townview High School in Krugersdorp.

“Radio still plays an important role in many societies, especially Christian radio stations such as Rainbow FM which appeal to the Christian community. Christian-based radio reaches deeper than commercial radio as society is faced with a myriad challenges, both physical and spiritual. It is still a medium that people will use to communicate their situations.”

Pastor Neville talks from experience gained when he hosted a show from 10pm to midnight. During that time, he had listeners who phoned him with their problems – some with suicidal intentions, others with marriage, family, drug, or occult worship issues – that they would relate in the hope of divine intervention.

“Christian radio seems to be on par with commercial radio, but there is still some work to be done in terms of finance and technology,” he said.

Although the Rainbow FM frequency is intended to reach the West and South of Johannesburg, Pastor Neville said he gets calls from as far away as Soweto and Midrand, and sometimes even from Dubai.

He said he hopes that Randfontein re-positions itself as a force to be reckoned with, despite facing economic decline. He also advises the youth who want to make it on radio and in other professions not to lose hope and to reach for their dreams.
