New crime trend you should worry about

There is a new crime trend in Randfontein that we should worry about. Details here:

The Randfontein Police have noticed a new crime trend in the area.

They said the theft of car batteries and spares is escalating in the area. When inspecting business premises, it was found these items have great trade value.

Captain Appel Ernst, Randfontein Police spokesperson said this is bad news for second-hand goods dealers.

She explained it is stipulated in section 1 of the Second Hand Goods Act 6 of 2009 that any goods to the value of R100 and more which are traded, traded in or exchanged, and which are not from the original manufacturer, are deemed to be second-hand goods.

This means car batteries and spares require second-hand goods dealers to be in possession of a valid permit in terms of the Act. Dealers who trade in these items, she said, are requested to contact Warrant Officer Lukas Benecke or Nicole Moinwe from the Randfontein Police to assist them in getting the necessary documentation.

These police members can be contacted on 011 767 2314.

In a bid to curb the theft of batteries and spares in the area, owners are advised to engrave the registration number of the vehicle on the battery for easy recognition if it is stolen.
