Man, 47, assaulted, killed

Man dies after assault by three other men in Randfontein.

A 47-year-old man was recently assaulted and killed by three men at a tavern in Mohlakeng, Randfontein.

Although the incident took place on Tuesday, 31 January, police say the motive for the attack is currently still under investigation and no arrests have been made.

Captain Appel Ernst, Randfontein Police’s spokesperson, said, “[The victim] was allegedly injured with an unknown object and rushed to a local hospital.”

She explained further that the victim did not die immediately. He succumbed to his injuries in hospital at approximately 4.35am. According to witnesses to the incident, the three suspects are well known in the Nokwe Street area in Mohlakeng, near where the incident took place.

Warrant Officer (WO) Bongani Mpete is investigating the matter and is urgently requesting the public’s assistance in tracing witnesses to the incident. He can be contacted on 011 278 8100 during office hours.
