Old age home targeted by armed robbers

Employees were tied up and residents robbed as police confirm Sashca's Old Age Home in Randfontein was targeted during the weekend.

The Randfontein police have confirmed that an old age home in Elandsvlei was targeted by armed robbers during the weekend.

Captain Appel Ernst, Randfontein police’s spokesperson said, “At about 7.30pm on Friday, 10 February, it is alleged that five suspects in a red BMW entered the premises. They allegedly pointed at the employees with firearms and demanded cash. Some of the employees were tied up and the suspects took electronic appliances, jewellery and cellular telephones.”

The suspects then fled the scene. No serious injuries were reported. The Randfontein police are investigating a business robbery.

The Herald received information from a reliable source that the old age home in question is Sashca’s Old Age Home. Andre Benadie, owner of the home, told the Herald everything is back to normal and the residents of the home were not injured.

Benadie said, “The suspects unfortunately stole from the residents and the home itself.”
