#FridayBraaiDay: How long it takes a ‘Teiner to braai

'Nou gaan ons braai' – What Randfontein had to say about when one is actually going to.

It’s #FridayBraaiDay and for the first article in our new series, the Herald asked ‘Teiners on Facebook how long it actually takes them to start braai’ing.

#NOUGaanOnsBraai is a well-known joke and saying in South Africa especially in Afrikaans culture where braai’ing is a way of life, yet whenever it is actually time to braai, people do anything but braai.

Braais usually take place as follows:

• Announce a braai and invite guests

• Completely ignore the braai and socialise with the starving guests

• After approximately six hours, when it’s too dark out to braai and hungry guests want to leave to the nearest fast-food restaurant, take the meat out of the deep-freeze to defrost, and start the fire

• Serve food after guests pass out from starvation
