Randgate Clinic completed – opening to be announced

The community waited nine years for another clinic and the opening is around the corner.

After nine years of struggling, Randgate finally has another clinic.

Sina Erasmus, councillor for the area (Ward 4), started fighting for a new clinic to be built in the area nine years ago. In 2003, she got wind that construction would finally begin.

Since construction was started, three contractors – all of whom failed to meet the required standards – have come and gone. The clinic has also been referred to as a massive waste of money by Jack Bloom, Gauteng Democratic Alliance Shadow MEC for Health.

The clinic is just about completed. Sina said an opening date has yet to be set but the clinic is ready with only final touches and cleaning to still be done.

She said she gives all credit to the contractor, Motheo Construction, and Manie Neethling, the site agent.

When the Herald visited the site with the Sina and Manie, the clinic was already equipped with beds, chairs and medical equipment.

Although the Randgate Clinic is a state facility, it looks more like a private hospital with state of the art equipment. This is not limited to its medical machinery – it includes its TVs, fire emergency equipment and air conditioning.

The clinic also has measures and machinery in place in case of a water or electricity outage. In addition, the design is almost out of place in what now seems to be a structurally outdated Randgate.

Sina is excited for when the clinic becomes fully operational and can serve the community.

With the clinic completed and the Tambotie Mall opening soon, residents of Randgate will no longer have to travel further than their community to get their basic needs seen to.
