Provincial government delivers on promises

Five areas in the West Rand got what they asked for from government.

The Ntirhisano Community Outreach Programme has returned to the Rand West City, this time to give the community what they asked for.

The programme provides a platform for the Gauteng Provincial Government to assess service delivery and engage with residents to help them resolve issues in their community.

On Tuesday, 31 January, the larger West Rand received a visit from the Ntirhisano team along with Premier David Makhura; West Rand District Mayor, Boyce Maneli; and Rand West City Mayor, Mzi Khumalo.

The visit was aimed at handing over the completed projects brought up as challenges by the community of the West Rand during the team’s last visit in April, 2016.

Since the last visit to the West Rand, the team has been hard at work trying to make tangible what community members said was lacking in their respective areas.

Of the projects brought up were Agriparks, electrification of houses, drug rehabilitation and sports centres, as well as education programmes and storm water infrastructure.

Completed projects:

Badirile

A long-awaited Community Hall was opened in the area and 292 houses were provided with electricity. The already established Agripark was also visited by the Ntirhisano team to assess the progress thereof.

Toekomsrus

The Toekomsrus Drug Rehabilitation Centre was visited to assess progress and establish challenges the centre has been facing or may face in the future. The area’s sports centre was also visited to assess its progress.

Mohlakeng

Books were handed over to the Mohlakeng Underground Library and an overdue visit was paid to Mohlakeng Extension 11 residents to view the progress of the electrification of houses in the area. In addition, the team’s storm water project was assessed to see what has been, and what still needs to be, done.

Syferfontein

The Housing Project in the area which will accommodate people from Bekkersdal, Thambo, Mandala and other surrounding informal settlements was assessed.

Westonaria Borwa

The already established Westonaria Borwa Housing Project was inspected and tools were handed over to residents of the new residential area for their backyard gardens. A total of 94 homes received tools.
