R’fontein schools represent at West Rand Top Achievers awards

Randfontein's town schools all took home an award for their efforts.

The West Rand has for the fourth year running done the best in Gauteng and their top learners have been awarded for making it possible.

The West Rand achieved a matric pass rate of 91,2 per cent for the class of 2016. The area has been above 90 percent for the past four years and in doing so has beaten the rest of Gauteng at the matric pass rate game.

The area’s learners were awarded on Friday, 27 January at a ceremony held at the Ahmed Timol Secondary School.

In Randfontein, Hoërskool Riebeeckrand’s Sasha-Lee Roestorff received special recognition for being the best achiever in Economics. The school also received an award for having a learner in the Top 100 learners in the province.

Randfontein High School (RHS) took home an award for having the best achiever in Dance Studies, Dramatic Arts, Design, Music and Visual Arts. The school also received an award for being in the 48th position in the Top 100 schools in Gauteng.

Hoërskool Jan Viljoen (Jannas) also received an award for being one of the nine schools in the West Rand to achieve a 100 per cent pass rate.

West Rand District Mayor, Boyce Maneli chuffed with the matric pass rate for the West Rand.

In addition, a learner from Kgothalang Secondary School, Khotso Sebueng, received an award for attaining full marks in Physical Science.

Topping the list of awards, Mohammed Azhar Suleman Bobat took home the award for being the best-performing learner in the district.
