#PoppieMurderCase postponed

Murder case postponed to 21 February.

Two of the accused in the Poppie van der Merwe murder case briefly appeared in the Brits Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday.

Proceedings started after 10am. Herald journalist Maritza van Zyl was in court in a case that attracted a lot of media attention. It was the first time both accused appeared in court together. It was believed both would re-apply for bail but, the case was postponed to 21 February.

Both Kobus Koekemoer (Poppie’s stepfather) and Louisa Koekemoer (Poppie’s biological mother) were arrested in connection with the blue-eyed girl’s tragic death in Brits last year. Poppie died on the way to a hospital in the area as a result of her injuries.

The Herald reported yesterday (Tuesday, 24 January) that Kobus Koekemoer allegedly attempted to seriously injure himself.
