Kadelo, 24, and Gugulethu, 23, surprised the Herald recently when they showed up with their book of extraordinary drawings – confirmation of their amazing talent that actually took everyone’s breath away.

They proudly showed off each drawing they did in 2016 and those they’ve done so far this year. The magic of it all is that they have never had formal training. Kadelo started drawing when he was in Grade 2 and from there on he started perfecting his art.

Kadelo, who is Gugulethu’s friend, then showed him some techniques and now Gugulethu is also living out his talent.

Kadelo loves drawing portraits of people, flowers, animals, objects and children. Because of the all the detail in his pictures, one drawing can take from four to seven hours to complete.

He draws with pastels, pencils, and chalk and also does oil paintings. He also did an amazing drawing of Nelson Mandela. His favourite artist is the controversial Salvador Dali.

Gugulethu started drawing comics at school, as an art subject, before Kadelo showed him some drawing techniques. He likes drawing his family, wild animals and portraits. He also uses a pencil, but does acrylic painting too. Both these artists are aiming high – as Kadelo said, “I want to be the best.”

Kadelo’s father joined the interview, and said, “I am very proud of both of them, but there is still a lot of hard work to be done and mountains to climb to become the best.”

Kadelo is currently selling the drawings of people he has done. Both young men invite the community to phone them if they are interested in having their portraits done.

Kadelo can be reached on 073 683 7076. Gugulethu can be contacted at 079 553 7375.
