Saving grace for matrics who didn’t make it

Back to the drawing board: get assistance from the Department of Education.

The Second Chance Matric Support Programme is here and might be the saving grace for those who did not meet the requirements of the National Senior Certificate (NSC).

The programme exists to provide support said learners to complete their schooling career with a qualification. The Department of Basic Education is calling on said learners to take another shot at the NSC through the programme.

How it works:

• Face-to-face classes

These classes will be offered by Grade 12 teachers of a good standing. The classes will be available at 50 venues in mainly rural and semi-rural areas nationwide for June ad November examinations only.

• Multimedia broadcasting solutions

Telematics broadcasts will be available at selected schools nationally except in Gauteng and in the Free State, the Internet Broadcasting Programme (IBP) will be at work at selected schools.

HD Open View TV broadcasts will be available on channel 201 privately and at 36 venues nationwide. In addition, DStv channel 319 will have Mindset Television broadcasts which are to do with the programme.

SABC Education Geleza Nathi broadcasts will take place on weekdays on SABC 1 from 5am to 6am with repeats at 11am and if the lessons are still missed, they can be watched on the SABC Education Gezela Nathi YouTube videos.

• Digital online courses:

Online courses will be available throughout the year and are said to be compatible on all devices. They will also be available offline via at libraries and community centres nationwide.

The courses can also be accessed at the 74 Vodacom centres, libraries and community centres. There will be no data costs for Vodacom subscribers utilising the Vodacom e-Learning site available at www.vodacom.co.za/e-school

For more information, visit the Second Chance Programme @DBE2ndChance or the department’s website at www.education.gov.za.

For those interested, they are urged to contact their nearest Education District office before 15 March, 2017 to register to write the November 2017 examinations.
