Avante’s little ones enter ‘big’ school

First look at the new Grade 1s at Avante Primary School for the year 2017.

Approximately 200 Grade 1s were welcomed at Avante Primary School for their first day at ‘big’ school on Tuesday, 10 January.

Avante Primary was established in 2003 when Wheatlands and Kocksoord Primary schools combined.

Excitement was in the air and teachers were busy organising the little ones into their different classes. Very few learners looked nervous – they were mostly smiling and some of them immediately started making friends. One learner, Letloane Setlhare, had no problem posing for photos.

Proud parents could not stop snapping away on their cameras, documenting this special day. The teachers themselves said they are excited to get to know their new group of Grade 1s. One teacher, Candida Pieters, has the privilege of having triplets in her class.

Three sets of twins also started Grade 1 this year, which makes this group of learners extra special.

The school’s principal, Hennie Fourie, who has been there since 2005 and the Grade 1 teachers will surely have their hands full this year.

Kegomoditswe Phokompe’s mother told the Herald,

I was very excited this morning when I woke up. We are also excited about my child’s new school and what lies ahead.”
