Man, 29, gets hefty sentence for theft, robbery

A man in his 20s who terrorised the community of theft and robbery during April/May in 2015 has been sentenced to 15 years in prison.

Sikoe Paul Monyai, aged 29, was recently convicted of theft and robbery and sentenced to 15 years in prison in the Randfontein Regional Court.

According to Captain Appel Ernst, Randfontein Police spokesperson, Monyai terrorised the community in the Moshoeshoe Street area during April/ May 2015.

“Monyai stole goods worth approximately R20 000 in a short period of time. He was arrested in June 2015 and the four cases in which he was the accused ran concurrently,” Ernst said.

Warrant Officer Bongani Mpeteis applauded the investigation into these cases and the successful conclusion there of. The Randfontein Police management also congratulates the members of the National Prosecuting Authority, Magistrate Ms Kau and the prosecutor, Adele Britz for their commitment to these cases.

“It is evident that an habitual criminal has been removed from the Randfontein streets. Thorough investigation and the effective judicial process secured this conviction.” said Brigadier Manamela, the Randfontein Station Commander.
