Bound, beaten and killed: Children found the bludgeoned body

Police shed light on the brutal beating and killing of a Randfontein man this week.

The Randfontein Police have shed light on the brutal beating and murder of a man in his 30s that occurred on Thursday, 5 January.

The incident took place at approximately 1pm, in Ten Acres Agricultural Holdings and not in Hillside as originally reported.

According to Captain Appel Ernst, Randfontein Police’s spokesperson, the body was discovered by children walking along 8th Road.

She said the children noticed him lying on the side of the road and immediately alerted a Community Policing Forum (CPF) member. The member in turn notified the Randfontein Police as well as Emergency Services.

Ernst said the man was estimated to be between the ages of 30 and 33 and was found with his hands and feet bound.

As confirmed by Netcare 911, the man had multiple injuries which were treated on scene. Due to the extent of his wounds, he was to be airlifted to hospital, but unfortunately he died shortly after the helicopter arrived.

According to Ernst, the man was identified on scene as a resident of Soweto and investigating officers are currently following up on all possible leads.

Ernst confirmed witness accounts stating that the man had been dropped off and left for dead, but shed more light on the matter, saying “[I]nvestigations have revealed that the deceased was dropped off by the occupants of two to three vehicles”.

She added that no further details are available at this stage.

The Randfontein Police are are now searching for any more information that might assist in their investigation.
