Respected Mohlakeng pastor turns 60

Nicodemus Moagi Phake, parish minister of the Mohlakeng St Paul’s Anglican Church, historian, writer and motivational speaker turned 60 on Saturday, 17 December 2016.

Phake has a very interesting life story and has written 90 articles for the Herald. As motivational speaker he has visited various schools such as Mohlakeng Public School, Laerskool Avante Private School, Hoërskool Jan Viljoen and Randfontein High School (RHS) in the earlier years.

At these schools, he spoke to learners about gangsterism, punctuality, bullying, drugs, disrespect and many other important issues. Phake also has a strong political background. He has been listed as a candidate for the African Christian Democratic Party (ACDP) and was also involved with the Congress of the People (Cope) party.

Phake was a political prisoner on Robben Island from 1978 until his release in 1983. According to Phake, he was detained without trial from 1986 to 1989.

He has had a history of mingling with VIPs, and his life stories are endless.

Phake who has learned many life lessons, now spends his time at church and is still very much involved in the community.
