JUST IN: Murdered man, 65, found on bed

Murder probe after man, 65, tied up and killed in house on smallholding in Pelzvale.

Randfontein Police have launched a murder investigation after a 65-year-old man was found dead and tied up in a house on a Pelzvale smallholding two days before Christmas.

Captain Appel Ernst, Randfontein Police spokesperson confirmed at around 6am on Friday 23, December, the police were summoned to a Pelzvale smallholding in Randfontein.

A domestic worker informed the police that she came to work that day and discovered the door and windows of the smallholding wide open.

She investigated and made the gruesome discovery that the occupant of the smallholding was laying on the bed in the bedroom.

“He was tied up.  She immediately called the police and ambulance services.”

Ernst added the body of the 65-year-old occupant of the residence was found with his hands and feet tied.  He was declared dead on scene by emergency medical personnel.  It was evident that the house was ransacked and that numerous items of value was missing from the house.

Although a murder investigation has been launched, the Herald received information from a person on Saturday, 24 December stating, “Last night (23 December) the person who I am renting a flat on his property from was murdered on his smallholding. It looks like he was strangled after his hands was tied up behind his back. The police and emergency personnel has already been on the scene.”

Lieutenant Colonel Gert Kruger, West Rand Trio Task team commander, urges any person who might be able to shed light on this senseless murder to contact him on 082 413 2635.

We will leave no stone unturned in tracing and apprehending the suspect(s) in this murder,” said Brigadier Manamela, Randfontein Police station commander.
