Top 5 alternative Christmas songs

Bands and singers you probably didn't know had released Christmas songs. Listen to them today!

During the festive season, especially as we get nearer to Christmas, many like to listen to Christmas carols and general Christmas music.

Well, one can only listen to Paul McCartney’s Wonderful Christmastime and Mariah Carey’s All I want for Christmas is You so many times. Here are some popular alternative bands you probably didn’t know have recorded Christmas songs as well.

The Ramones – Merry Christmas (I Don’t Want to Fight Tonight)

The Ramones are one of the first bands that pop into your mind when thinking about punk in the late 80s and early 90s. The Beat on the Brat band released a short single in 1989 called Merry Christmas (I Don’t Want to Fight Tonight) for their 11th studio album, Brain Drain.

No Doubt – Oi To The World

Ska-pop band, No Doubt, did a cover of a cover. Joy to the world was first sung in the 1700s and since then, The Vandals made their own version of the song in 1996, and naturally, Gwen Stefani just couldn’t resist her own cover in No Doubt.

The Killers – Don’t Shoot Me, Santa

Of course, The Killers make regular contributions to the festive season song market. Don’t Shoot Me, Santa is just one of the band’s Christmas songs off their Don’t Waste Your Wishes album, which was released in November this year. The album is a compilation of all their holiday offerings.

Coldplay – Have yourself a Merry Little Christmas

Judy Garland originally sang Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas and the somewhat sombre song was covered by Coldplay. Their take on the song is a bare piano with lackadaisical vocals and speed.

The Bird and the Bee – Carol of the Bells

Carol of the Bells turned 100-years-old in 2014 and the duo, The Bird and the Bee took it upon themselves to do a cover. Their version is eerie, haunted and makes you feel like you’re in a lucid dream. The moment it finishes, you’d probably want to listen to it again.
