Two youngsters were found guilty for the robbery and murder of a 77-year-old woman, Bekkersdal Police said.
According to Linkie Lefakane, Bekkersdal Police spokesperson, on Tuesday, 13 December, Kgotso Ramollowas, 19, was convicted and sentenced to 35 years imprisonment while the other suspect, Thabang Raditsebeto, 18, was convicted and sentenced to 30 years imprisonment by the High Court sitting in Palm Ridge.
The robbery and murder took place on 29 January 2016.
According to an eyewitness, one of the neighbours grew suspicious after various unusual signs.
It is alleged he jumped through the fence and made a gruesome discovery. The police were summoned and an investigation revealed the woman was stabbed and robbed. It was discovered her cellphone and cash were missing.
The suspects were eventually located and arrested at the Bekkersdal informal settlement. The murder weapon was also discovered and through an investigation led by Detective Sergeant Mavis Oageng both suspects were denied bail.
The Station Commander thanked the members for the contribution and dedication towards her work.
