Rand West City improves on audit outcome

Rand West City Local Municipality receives better audit outcome for the most recent financial year.

Since the establishment of the Rand West City Local Municipality (RWCLM), local governance has been on the rise.

This comes after the city received an unqualified audit outcome from the Auditor General for the 2015/ 2016 financial year. An unqualified audit outcome is when an entity’s financial records are fairly and appropriately presented.

During the previous financial year (2014/ 2015) the two municipalities which make up Rand West namely Randfontein and Westonaria both received dismal audit outcomes.

“This outcome is further affirmed by the commitment reflected by the political leadership of the municipalities in improving the governance,” said Tshidiso Tlharipe, spokesperson for RWCLM mayor, Mzi Khumalo.

Tlharipe said the municipality is still concerned about the increase of irregular expenditure.

“While we are encouraged that goods and services have been procured from the irregular expenditure, we appeal to the political leadership of government to ensure that stricter measures are put in place to decrease this amount and that the procurement processes are followed,” he said.

The recent audit comes as a sigh of relief and has inspired enthusiasm within the municipality regarding the management of funds for the new RWCLM entity.

“We will use the service, good traits, leadership and discipline as displayed by both the staff and political leadership of the former Randfontein and Westonaria Local Municipalities in creating a sustainable and delivery-based Rand West City,” Tlharipe said.

He added that the municipality is confident that the entity’s future will be managed with the necessary care and that its ability to deliver services to its consistency will surpass the expectations of its community.

“We are confident that the future of the Rand West City Local Municipality will be managed with the necessary care and its ability to deliver services to its constituency will surpass expectations.”
