Police to arrest second suspect in Poppie murder case

According to a reliable source, a second person will allegedly be arrested today in the Poppie van der Merwe murder case.

The Herald has received information that a second suspect involved in the murder case of 3-year-old Poppie van der Merwe will allegedly be arrested today (Thursday, 15 December).

According to a reliable source, the person is to face a charge of murder.

Poppie died of her injuries on the way to the hospital in Brits. Kobus Koekemoer, her stepfather, was arrested soon after her death. He has appeared numerous times in the Brits Magistrates’ Court, and is still in custody.

Various rumours have since surfaced regarding alleged sexual, mental and physical abuse of Poppie and her brother. Pornographic material also was allegedly found.

The Herald is aware of the identity of the suspect due to be arrested, but cannot reveal it yet, because of the legalities associated with the situation.
