The Rand West City Local Municipality has launched an Arrive Alive Campaign and is serious about bringing road fatalities down to zero.
Traffic offenders driving past and within the Rand West City Local Municipality (RWCLM) borders are in for a torrid festive season, according to the stern warning RWCLM Traffic Chief, Kgomotso Mthethwa has issued to motorists.
Mthetwa said her troops will be visible throughout the festive season to ensure motorists with no regard for traffic law are harshly dealt with.
The launch of the campaign started with a surprise roadblock on Friday, 9 November where 435 cars were stopped and 284 fines were issued. In addition, two motorists were arrested, one for drunken driving and the other for defeating the ends of justice.
Mthetwa promised more roadblocks as Christmas and New Year’s Day approach.
The launch was not just limited to traffic officers. Jeje Legoete, the MMC for Public Safety did his part to ensure a safer Rand West by assisting traffic officers with their duties as well as interacting with motorists about road safety.
