Steyn’s bail denied – again

Steyn's second affidavit contained no new information that would strengthen her application.

Cecilia Steyn, one of the accused in the Krugersdorp triple murder case, has reappeared in the Krugersdorp Magistrates’ Court to hear whether the magistrate would grant her bail after her second bail application hearing on 8 December was postponed.

Cecilia Steyn's bail has been denied for a second time.

The magistrate accepted both the affidavit and the counter-argument, but ruled that Steyn would not be granted bail yet (on 8 December), as he wanted to scrutinise the documentation, and postponed the case until 13 December. At the hearing on Tuesday, 13 December, Steyn submitted another affidavit, but according to the magistrate, it was almost identical to the previous one, and contained no new information that would strengthen her application.

Consequently, he once again denied the application and remanded Steyn in custody until Friday, 27 January 2017.
