Alleged murderer of woman in her car back in court soon

The ex-husband of the woman found murdered in her car is to reappear in court next week. WAWA is inviting the public to join in their protest against the granting of bail..

The suspected murderer and ex-husband of Candice Leslie (neé Fritz), 37, who was found dead in her car on Monday, 14 November, will be reappearing in the Randfontein Magistrate Court on Tuesday, 13 December.

The suspect would have applied for a bail hearing on 29 November, but the application was postponed because his legal representative was unavailable on that day.

The suspect’s first appearance in the Randfontein Magistrate’s Court was on Wednesday, 16 November.

Although this was not a bail hearing, family and friends of the deceased gathered outside the court, protesting against the possibility of bail being granted.

The Herald was informed on Friday, 9 December by Woman Against Women and Child Abuse (WAWA) that they are inviting the community to join them at 7.30am on 13 December, at the Toekomsrus Police Station, where they will begin a protest against the granting of bail that will continue all the way to the Randfontein Magistrates’ Court.

Captain Appel Ernst, the Randfontein Police spokesperson, released a statement confirming that the victim was driving her red VW Polo and was supposed to pick someone up in Toekomsrus at the time of her murder. She also added that the victim had allegedly not returned home by 8pm, which is when the family started searching for her. The vehicle’s tracking system was activated and on Monday, 14 November 2016 at 6am, it was recovered. Ernst also said that the car was found on the corner of Cherry and Storm River Streets, in Toekomsrus.

Ernst added, “The tracking company employee then made a gruesome discovery – the body of the driver was lying on the back seat of the vehicle. She had been brutally murdered.

Primary investigations have indicated that she succumbed to multiple stab wounds.”

The Herald attended the court proceedings, which were presided over by Magistrate Elbie Botha, on 16 November, and witnessed the community’s immense support for the victim. Botha confirmed that the charge against the suspect was one of murder and that the victim had been stabbed repeatedly before succumbing to her injuries.
