Young man critical after T-bone crash

Another crash involving two vehicles left a man in his 20s critical after a bakkie T-boned a motor vehicle.

A 26-year-old man was left critically injured after a bakkie T-boned a light motor vehicle at the Cedar and Acacia Road intersection in Westonaria on Monday, 5 December.

ER24 paramedics, as well as those of another service arrived on the scene and found the light motor vehicle on the side of the road while the bakkie was found in the left lane of the road facing oncoming traffic.

“The paramedics found the driver of the bakkie lying outside his vehicle. Paramedics assessed his condition, and found he had sustained numerous injuries and was critically injured,” said Russel Meiring, the ER24 spokesperson.

Paramedics immediately began their treatment and provided the man with several advanced life support interventions. Once treated, the patient was airlifted by a medical helicopter to a private hospital in Johannesburg for urgent treatment.

The driver of the light motor vehicle was also assessed and found to have sustained minor injuries only. He was treated and transported to a nearby hospital for further treatment.

The cause of the collision is not yet known but local authorities were on scene for further investigations.
