Farm-murder figures for 2016 to be released

AfriForum and TAU SA to release 2016 farm-attack and farm-murder figures.

AfriForum and the Transvaal Agricultural Union of South Africa (TAU SA) will release the 2016 figures regarding farm attacks and murders at a media conference in Centurion on Wednesday, 7 December.

The information was compiled by TAU SA in cooperation with the AfriForum Research Institute (ANI).

Specific elements regarding the 2016 farm attacks and murders, which will be revealed include the following:

• The most dangerous day of the week

• The average time during which the farm attacks are committed

• The average number of attackers per attack

• The total number of attackers and victims

• The average age of victims

• The vulnerability of farms compared to smallholdings

• Farm workers being targeted

• Methods of torture

• Weapons used or stolen during the attacks

• Cases of rape or attempted rape

• Abduction

• Vehicles hijacked or stolen

Information about AfriForum and TAU SA’s respective campaigns and steps to be taken in 2017 to combat farm murders and attacks will be made available at the media conference.
