RPA ends off the year on a sky-high note

After a long year and fantastic R'fontein Show, the RPA ended off its activities.

The Randfontein Publicity Association (RPA) has celebrated the end of its long year at a glitzy sky bar in Homelake.

This year, on Black Friday, the RPA had their year-end function at the Durban Curry Den’s sky bar.

Joy Hamann and Marcelle Mans from the RPA were the MCs for the night and updated members about the progress with next year’s Randfontein Show.

Without giving too much away, Marcelle said next year’s Show theme is bicycles. Why? Because the show has made it through 35 years and now it’s time to keep moving forward.

Alderman Roy Harris spoke on next year’s theme and called on members to temporarily sponsor bikes to the Show Committee as the two-wheeled contraptions tend to cost an arm and a leg these days.

Various familiar faces and community philanthropists attended the event, including Georgina Caetano, founder of the Just In Time Baby Sanctuary as well as Ina Meiring, founder of Old Oaks Hospice.

In the spirit of Black Friday, the RPA gave members a discount on the amount of time they need to speak to introduce themselves and their organisation or business. Instead of speaking for 30 or 60 seconds, members could do their introduction in 15 seconds.

As every end-year function should be, the RPA got together mystery gift packs for members to reward them for their dedication over the last year.

The gifts were handed out as the prizes in a game of musical tins. Members stood in a circle and passed a Randfontein Show children’s money saving tin while music played. When the music stopped, the person holding the tin won a prize.

Most of the music was an impromptu performance by musician and now writer, Linda Kilian.

Joy said due to the holidays in December and in April next year, the next RPA networking event will most likely take place only at the end of March, after the Randfontein Show. The date, location and time have yet to be announced.
